2022 East Region Visitor Information

After three years, Little League® International is excited to bring back all of our Region and World Series tournaments for the 2022 season. As the world still navigates the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, Little League remains committed to the health and well-being of all teams and has worked with its medical advisors to provide guidance to operate all tournaments throughout this summer.

“As we enter this year’s full slate of Little League Region and World Series tournaments, we have seen great advances in treatments, testing, and understanding of COVID-19,” said James H. Finigan, MD, National Jewish Health Pulmonologist and Director of the Respiratory Centers of Excellence, and Little League International Medical Advisor. “We know that there is no way to eliminate all risk of catching COVID-19 during the tournaments, but we worked together to develop guidelines with the goal of allowing these events to occur as normally and safely as possible.”

EAST REGION TOURNAMENT HISTORY

The A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League® Leadership Training Center was dedicated on June 19, 1993. Named for the former president of Yale University and Major League Baseball Commissioner, this full-time headquarters provides support for the world’s largest region, by population, of Little League®. This facility hosts several clinics throughout the year, training adult volunteers in the leadership skills necessary to operate successful Little League® programs and provide an enjoyable and educational playing experience for Little Leaguers®. Breen Field is the crown jewel of the facility, hosting every game of the baseball and softball region tournaments.

The Little League Baseball® East Region Tournament was played in a number of locations throughout the northeast through 1976. Following a 10-year stint in Newburgh, New York from 1977 through 1986, the tournament moved to its permanent home of Bristol, Connecticut in 1987. A single East Region baseball champion was crowned through 2000. From 2001 through 2021, the New England and Mid-Atlantic Region Tournaments were played at the East Region headquarters. In 2022, the Little League Baseball® World Series expanded, with the Giamatti Center hosting the Metro, Mid-Atlantic, and New England Region tournaments.

The A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League® Leadership Training Center hosted the Little League Softball® East Region tournament for the first time in 2011. With the expansion of the Little League Softball® World Series in 2022, the East Region now hosts the Mid-Atlantic and New England Region Tournaments concurrently.
