Coronavirus (COVID-19) Background Checks FAQs

For this year, the background checks that were conducted in the spring of 2020 are valid for the remainder of 2020 and can be used in the fall. They also count for your 2019-2020 background checks.

Background checks should still be conducted for any individual that holds a board position or is in contact with any children. If your league is not running a season, but still plans to hold any type of play (i.e. Little League Sandlot Fun Days) or activity (i.e. on-site Board meetings), background checks must be completed for those volunteers participating in those activities.

If the volunteer is not participating in any capacity, the volunteer application can either be returned to the volunteer or properly shredded.

Background checks must be completed before the start of any season. If the first practice/game does not start until September 1, the background check process must be completed and approved before that date.

Each year, chartered local Little League programs receive 125 background checks that are paid for by Little League International. If they are not used by September 30, they will expire and will not be carried over to the following year.

A league must confirm their Background Check Compliance after all the background checks for the 2019-2020 season are completed.
